When You Need Quality Assurance

The nuclear densometer is regarded as a fast and accurate tool to test the density and water content of compaction. Also known as Soil Density Gauge, this device uses the interaction of gamma radiation with matter to measure density through direct transmission or backscatter method.

Scala Pentrometer or hand cone pentrometer is used to determine the penetration resistance of a soil. It is an extremely good tool for profiling soil strength at depth.

The Clegg Hammer consists of two basic components: a flat-ended cylindrical mass and a guide tube. The mass(hammer) is dropped from a predetermined height. The hammers reaction to rebound is measured and displayed via a digital readout.
Pathfinder Services can arrange testing product samples for dry density & water content. These results will be required before testing with the Nuclear Densometer. Experienced field technicians can offer advice on the requirements to get a pass result, at the time of testing.

How The NDM Works

The Nuclear Densometer determines the density of material by counting the number of photons emitted by a radioactive source (cesium-137) that are read by the detector tubes in the gauge base. In direct transmission, the source extends through the base of the gauge into a predrilled hole to position the source at the desired depth. Photons from the source travel through the material in the test area, colliding with electrons present in the material, to reach the photon detectors in the gauge.
